Google Play – Google’s app store – now reaches more than 1 billion people on Android devices in more than 190 countries and Google’s latest update is great news for app developers who want to increase awareness of their app.
The background for this move from Google’s side is that it makes most it’s revenue by serving relevant content and ads to users based on their searches. The number of monthly searches on Google has reached more than 100 billion, but until now, app developers have been limited in the ways to promote their apps.
That has changed now with the opportunity for developers to promote their apps with Search Ads on Google Play. Sponsored search results will appear in the search results in Google Play store in the same way Google’s AdWords search advertising works on Google.com.
On the rollout of the feature, Surojit Chatterjee, Director of Google’s Product Management and Mobile Search Ads said, “With such an extensive reach, Search Ads on Google Play can provide consumers new ways to discover apps that they otherwise might have missed and help developers drive more awareness of their apps.”
